A rapidly growing healthcare-focused organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to lead the design and implementation of a modern data platform from the ground up. This role will be responsible for building scalable data infrastructure, enabling analytics and reporting capabilities, and delivering reliable data solutions that support both operational and strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate combines strong cloud data engineering expertise with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment. This position offers significant ownership over architecture, standards, and platform direction while providing mentorship to junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, development, and ongoing enhancement of a scalable enterprise data platform.
  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders to define objectives, project scope, milestones, and success measures.
  • Design, build, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines that integrate data from multiple healthcare and enterprise systems.
  • Develop and optimise cloud-based data storage solutions, data models, and query performance.
  • Implement workflow orchestration, scheduling, monitoring, and operational support for data pipelines.
  • Establish best practices for data governance, documentation, testing, alerting, and engineering standards.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor and support junior data engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to long-term data strategy and platform scalability initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, architecting, and implementing enterprise data warehouse solutions.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and data infrastructure.
  • Proven expertise building and managing data pipelines within AWS environments.
  • Strong experience with Apache Airflow for workflow orchestration and pipeline management.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience working effectively in high-growth, rapidly changing, or startup-style environments.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Snowflake, SQL, Python, and dbt.
  • Background working with healthcare datasets, interoperability standards, clinical systems, claims data, or related healthcare workflows.
  • Understanding of healthcare data privacy and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience integrating data from external systems through APIs and industry-standard data exchange formats.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record or healthcare operations environments.
